Le ministère japonais de l'équipement a dévoilé un plan pour la création d'un réseau haut-débit gigantseque couvrant plusieurs nations asiatique, et reliant de nombreux centre de recherche, université, et autres infrastructures publiques.
Le réseau utiliserait la fibre optique et des satelittes de communication, se verait allouer un budget annuel de 2 milliards de yen pour commencer (dans l'hypothèse ou le plan serait accepté) et pourrait être mis en application avant la fin 2005.

The Public Management Ministry on Saturday compiled a plan to establish a high-speed communications network in Asia that will increase educational exchanges, international electronic commerce and access to medical care in the region, according to ministry sources.
The project is called the Asia Broadband Program and utilizes fiber-optic and satellite communications, the sources said.
Under the plan, Asian nations will be able to coordinate efforts in such fields as technology, and Internet technologies in the region will gradually be lifted to international standards, the sources added.
The government reportedly plans to seek about 2 billion yen for the project in budgetary requests for next fiscal year.
A study group of experts from academic, business and governmental circles, planned to unveil details of the plan to the public Monday.
Under the project, a service called telemedicine, through which people in other countries in Asia can consult with Japanese doctors via a high-speed Internet network, will start by the end of fiscal 2005. But such remote medical care requires the technology to transmit high-resolution medical images in real time. Therefore, Japan intends to conduct experiments in cooperation with other countries, including China and Thailand.
Many Asian universities and research institutions have not yet introduced systems through which they can share information kept in their databases. Under the project, it will be possible to do so.
The government also plans to equip with telecommunications devices public facilities in remote areas where a relatively high number of Japanese visit, so they do not have to use what it calls telecenters. |
