Japan, Russia to issue 3 documents during Kasyanov' visit
MOSCOW, Dec. 13, Kyodo - Japan and Russia will issue a joint statement on bilateral relations and two other documents on trade and illegal fishing when Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov pays a three-day visit to Japan from Monday, diplomatic sources said Saturday.
The two countries agreed to issue the three papers through working-level arrangements through Saturday.
The joint statement will cover economic cooperation and other broad areas of bilateral ties.
The two other documents will involve establishing a bilateral body to promote trade and investment, and enhancing cooperation on measures to deal with illegal fishing.
Kasyanov is scheduled to hold talks with Japanese Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi on Monday and Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi on Tuesday. Their talks are expected to focus on a project for laying a crude-oil pipeline in eastern Siberia.
Japan and China are competing for the project. Japan has offered loans to urge Russia to build the pipeline to link Angarsk near Lake Baikal and Nakhodka on the Sea of Japan coast while China calls for linking it to Daqing, an inland city in Heilongjiang Province that is closer to Angarsk than Nakhodka.
